Gate Japanese accessibility in the delivery process
WCAG conformance for Japanese products requires mixed-script, expansion, low-vision and multilingual checks with named ownership before release.
実践ガイダンス
Apply WCAG 2.2 AA through a Japanese delivery matrix rather than translation review alone. Test real Japanese content mixed with Latin text, numerals, symbols, emoji and ruby; preserve meaning and operation under text expansion, zoom, text-spacing overrides and low-vision settings; assign a named accessibility owner who can block release and time-bound every exception.
推奨
- Set the page language and mark language changes so assistive technology selects the intended pronunciation
- Test representative headings, body copy, forms, tables, dates, names, addresses, errors and controls with mixed Japanese and Latin scripts
- Allow line wrapping and content expansion without clipping, overlap, hidden controls or meaning that depends on manual line breaks
- Verify zoom, reflow, text-spacing overrides, contrast, forced colors and magnification with low-vision users or documented representative checks
- Review localized accessible names, descriptions, status messages, validation errors and reading order with native-language QA
- Pair guidance with executable component stories and tests while preserving DADS React's status as samples rather than a conformance claim
- Name an accessibility owner for each release and record severity, remediation owner, due date and expiry for every approved exception
非推奨
- Approve accessibility from machine translation or automated checks alone
- Force Japanese copy into fixed-height or single-line containers designed around English length
- Use visual spacing, glyph shape or color as the only cue for language, grouping, status or required input
- Assume an imported Japanese component sample makes the product conformant
- Waive a release-blocking issue without an accountable owner, user impact, remediation date and expiry
検証契約
Before release, the named owner signs a ja-JP matrix covering mixed-script fixtures, native-language screen-reader and keyboard tasks, 200% text sizing, 400% zoom/reflow, text-spacing overrides, forced colors and low-vision review; automated WCAG checks have no serious/critical failures; localized names, errors and announcements are manually verified; no unexpired release-blocking defect lacks an approved exception record.
